Hello Folks, It's been a couple of months since I posted Judith Said - the song with a SUPERB vocal by Janice Merritt. I've a few things I'm working on but only one that's in a state for any sort of listening. This is a song I wrote with my college writing partner Eric Drabwell, formerly of small town near Shreveport - but we did this about eight years ago rather than back in '76. It sat unfinished because it had potential but plodded along with insufficient variation for me to feel comfortable with it. I used BIAB to recreate the original song then added some chords changes to give some variation. Originally this was all G and C but I added a D/Dsus and an Am plus a C to give it some movement. I used the drums, organ & lead guitar from BIAB and recorded the rhythm guitars & bass myself. I copied the original vocal into the project and did some tuning to have the vocals agree with the news chords as well as a fair but of slicing & dicing to get the timing & phrasing right. Eric's not fussed on the changes and dislikes having his vocals tuned but I needed to do that nasty thing to make the changes work. His essential melody remains, pretty much, untrammeled though. I'll add the chords, BIAB components & lyrics presently, (I'm cooking dinner as I'm doing this). For the moment here's the unmastered current mix: APPARENTLY - The NewlingsBIAB STUFF: Organ - 671 Solo - 1260 Drums - RockHardLA^7 LYRIC: (Eric added the NO and some variations to the You don't part) For those in the know this is based on the very famous lyric by a cloth capped English chap doing introspection amidst the glam world. I used to rewrite famous lyrics as an exercise and to absorb forms etc. This one seemed to work better than most. Not so very long from now A few minutes or maybe an hour I’ve arranged by stealth to help myself To take residence in the tower And once because I’m soft will send my tears aloft All that just to make it plain to you That what we had you’ve completely shattered Left standing in a daze you amaze As you were saying: "It’s all a lie I will not try" No point in you refraining From tearing down my life And landing me in strife You don't love me? Apparently, No. It could have been any day For you to chose to go away But it’s not for you that wouldn’t do Demise to be its own decay So to make it all come down You brought the world around Once with so much, Now it's cut by your touch Displayed me in little pieces Leaving them no doubt All about your lack of mercy You took your grand exit And took it without me No, there was no need But you knew I’d plead You've walked again? Apparently, No. It seems to be That there are more lives Wasted in the world That you have rended They can’t be mended Why do you do that which you do? If I consider the years The shouting and the tears I recall you cried when I said you’d lied Not knowing you hid your fears And of all the lies you told Not one was oh so bold As the things you said beside me in bed You don’t love me, apparently, no. You’ve found someone, apparently, oh. You’ve walked again, apparently, oh. You don't love me? Apparently no.

The best just got better A New, FREE Norton Music Fake Disk #2 upgrade is available to anyone who purchased Fake Disk #2 (The Pop/Rock Fake Disk) from Norton Music. Thousands of new styles have been added to BiaB since we first compiled this e-disk back in the 1990s. Plus, we are much better at making these disks than we were back then. We spent well over a year revising this e-disk, assigning new styles, and doing many other things to make the chord progressions portray the songs more faithfully. It's a much better product now, and we are offering this update to you for free. WHY FREE? Because we think it's the right thing to do. As usual, the new styles are MIDI, but the BiaB robot should suggest a Real Style for most of these songs. Why MIDI? If I assigned a Real Style, BiaB would not recommend a MIDI style, so choosing MIDI is the only way to get both MIDI and REAL suggestions to you. In addition, many of the tricks we used to coax a more faithful rendition of the song will only work in MIDI. As always, I recommend that you listen to both the MIDI and Real version to see which one you like better. How to get your free upgrade? I just completed sending individual e-mails to all the users in my database that have a current e-mail address. If you didn't get your e-mail:
E-mail Norton Music (norton @ nortonmusic.com) <- remove the spaces
Put "Free Fake Disk #2 upgrade" in the subject line
Include your current physical and e-mail address. If you have moved since you bought the disk, let me have that address too, and I'll update my records
I'll check my records, and if I have you down as purchasing Disk #2 from me, I'll e-mail the upgrade to you. (Be sure to put my e-mail in your address book, so the anti-spam robots don't nuke it. I won't know it if they do.)
PLEASE, BE PATIENT — I'm doing this by hand, one at a time, and I'm still a gigging musician. If it's been a couple of weeks since you asked, try again. Sometimes e-mail gets lost.
Note: I'm posting this in the Off-Topic forum, and copying it to the Windows and Mac forums to make sure everyone sees it. Please pardon the redundancy. Thanks. I hope the update gives you endless hours of pleasure. Bob 'Notes' Norton ♫
New Feature Request…editing in new bb tracks view. Here's the problem. i genned a rd other day. i liked it except the clap sound. the problem is the clap sound occurs too many times in the track… very laborious to delete every occurrence… so a suggestion…new feature…pattern matching… a possible solution… ..user highlights the section of track to delete…and clicks on a 'delete all occurences in track' button. ..in programming code bb analyses the plus/minus integer sample values.. to create a 'base pattern'...then ...bb removes all occurrences in the track that pattern match the user's highlighted track section..in this case a clap sound. in the past of course i would use a midi track and a piano roll to delete each clap occurrence.. but i just like the quick new genning feature in the new bb tracks view. happiness. om
Logic pro x 11 has got the chord track back. Does anyone have an idea how to get the chord names from BIAB into logic's chord track. I just tried the new session player and am not particularly impressed.
It's never worked for me. It should work like Reaper's smooth seek, this will transition smoothly from one bar to another. Biab has midi chord input detection (Window > MIDI Chord Detection), if Biab could smooth seek it could be used as a live arranger right NOW, simply by going to that same chord region in the chord sheet that is inputted with a midi keyboard, let alone conductor working properly. To do any of this now you are best to use the BBPlugin in Reaper as you can use midi input/foot pedal to go to any section. How Reaper works now with Instructions in the Plugin makes it even easier as it will play the wma/wav source files directly and transition smoothly from any bar to any bar. You can even have more than one Plugin to give you a lot more playing material and chords that you are normally limited to 255 bars in the main Biab app, having Tabs in Reaper you can have as many songs as you like that you can instantly change to. Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
